Audi has released the first images and details of its all-new A1, which bears a striking resemblance to the Metroproject concept unveiled in Tokyo in 2007.

The exterior design of the A1 is defined by its color-contrasted roof arch and strong shoulder line. "The clear separation between the front, side, and rear has been eliminated to produce a holistic sculpture," says exterior designer Jürgen Löffler. Watch the video to the left to see Audi head of design Stephan Sielaff highlight more of the design elements.

Along with the roof arch, which can be ordered in various colors, the interior of the A1 offers a wide range of elements that can have their color and material customized according to personal tastes. "We imagined the control panel in the cockpit to be like an airplane wing with turbines," said interior designer Ivo van Hulten. "Even at this early stage we were thinking about colors and materials. Our goal was to allow A1 drivers to be able to design the air vents according to their personal taste.”
